Returns and Exchange Policy

Returns & Refunds Policy

This policy applies to all goods supplied by Van Breakers, trading as Tolan Brothers Ltd (Company Registration Number: NI631873) (“Van Breakers”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

This policy should be read in conjunction with our Shipping & Delivery Policy.


Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.


How This Policy Works

Our returns policy differs depending on how the purchase is made:

  • Online and telephone purchases are treated as distance sales

  • In-person / point-of-sale (POS) purchases do not carry change-of-mind return rights

Each is explained clearly below.


In-Person / Point-of-Sale Purchases (No Change-of-Mind Returns)

For in-person purchases made at our premises, including counter sales and POS transactions, no returns or refunds are offered for change of mind.

Customers are encouraged to inspect items prior to purchase and confirm suitability before completing the sale.

This applies to both trade and public customers.

This does not affect your statutory rights where an item is faulty, not as described, or unfit for purpose.


Distance Sales – Online & Telephone Purchases (14-Day Returns)

For online and telephone purchases, customers may request a return within 14 days of receiving the item, in accordance with the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

To be eligible for a return:

  • The item must be in the same condition as supplied

  • The item must not be installed, fitted, or used beyond what is necessary to inspect it

  • The item must be returned in its original packaging

  • All security tags and markings must be intact

  • Proof of purchase is required

Items returned without prior authorisation will not be accepted.

Vehicle Compatibility & Buyer Responsibility

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that any part purchased is compatible with their vehicle, including:

  • Vehicle make, model, and variant

  • Engine size and type

  • Year of manufacture and production date

  • VIN, part numbers, and software or hardware versions

Compatibility advice provided by Van Breakers is offered in good faith based on the information supplied by the customer.

Where a part is supplied correctly based on the information provided but proves incompatible, this will be treated as a change-of-mind return and handled in accordance with this policy.

This does not affect your statutory rights where an item is not as described or faulty at the time of supply.


Engines – In-Person / Point-of-Sale Sales Only

All engines are sold in person at our premises only and are not available for online or telephone purchase.

As engines are purchased in person (point of sale), no returns or refunds are offered for change of mind. Customers are encouraged to inspect the engine and confirm suitability prior to completing the sale.

The following conditions apply to all engine sales:

  • Engines must be fitted, tested, and trialled within 10 working days of purchase

  • Engines must be installed by a properly qualified technician

After 10 working days, returns will not be accepted for engines.

This does not affect your statutory rights where a fault was present at the time of supply or where the engine is not as described.

Failure to comply with the above requirements may invalidate a return or refund request.


Electrical & Electronic Components

(Including ECUs & Immobiliser-Linked Modules)

Used electrical and electronic components are non-returnable for change-of-mind returns and will not be accepted once fitted or installed.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • ECUs and engine management modules

  • Immobiliser units and body control modules (BCM)

  • Airbag / SRS modules

Returns will not be accepted once items have been:

  • Fitted or installed

  • Connected to a vehicle electrical system

  • Programmed, coded, paired, or VIN-locked

  • Powered, flashed, updated, or adapted

Returns will also not be accepted where faults arise from:

  • Incorrect fitting or wiring

  • Programming or coding errors

  • Voltage spikes, jump-starting, or battery faults

  • Vehicle incompatibility

This does not affect your statutory rights where a fault was present at the time of supply.


Safety-Critical Components

(Airbags, Seat Belts, Pretensioners & Airbag Control Modules)

Airbags, seat belts, seat belt pretensioners, airbag control modules (SRS / airbag ECUs), and other safety-critical or explosive components are:

  • Non-returnable for change-of-mind returns, and

  • Not accepted once fitted, installed, programmed, connected, or deployed

due to the safety risks involved.

No liability can be accepted for malfunction, damage, or injury arising from incorrect fitting, programming, deployment, or use.

This does not affect your statutory rights where a fault was present at the time of supply.


Faulty, Damaged, or Incorrect Items

Please inspect your order upon delivery or collection.

If an item is:

  • Faulty

  • Damaged in transit

  • Incorrectly supplied

You must notify us within 48 hours, providing photographs where possible.

We retain photographic evidence of all parts dispatched.

Where a fault is confirmed, we will offer a repair, replacement, or refund, in line with consumer legislation.


Non-Returnable Items (Change of Mind)

The following items are non-returnable for change-of-mind returns:

  • Hazardous materials, flammable liquids, or gases

  • Sale items

  • Gift cards


Incorrect Purchases & Restocking Fees (Distance Sales Only)

If an online or telephone purchase is made in error and is eligible for return:

  • A 50% restocking charge will apply

  • Return postage or courier costs are the customer’s responsibility

Restocking charges do not apply where an item is faulty, damaged, or incorrectly supplied.


Labour & Installation Costs

Van Breakers does not reimburse:

  • Labour costs

  • Fitting or removal charges

  • Diagnostic or programming costs

under any circumstances, regardless of outcome.


Exchanges

We do not offer direct exchanges.

The fastest way to obtain an alternative part is to:

  1. Request and complete a return (where eligible), then

  2. Place a new order once the return has been approved


Refunds

Refunds will only be issued after the returned item has been received and inspected.

Approved refunds will be processed to the original payment method.
Processing times may vary depending on your bank or card provider.
